I’m Amber Comadira-Smith, the cake-obsessed creative behind Cake with Amber (previously known as Commie’s Cupcakes). 

If you’d told me back in 2013 that my love for cake decorating would lead me here - teaching cake classes, winning awards (Australian Cake Decorator of the Year 2022 and 2023!), and inspiring people to unleash their creativity - I probably would’ve laughed and reached for another cupcake.

Back then, I was a graphic designer feeling stuck and uninspired, wondering if I’d lost my creative spark. My mental health was taking a hit and I needed something - anything - to reignite that passion.

Then one night, I stumbled The Great Australian Bake Off. It was all about cupcakes and let’s just say…I was absolutely hooked (just ask my mum and husband, I wouldn’t shut-up about it!)

What started as an escape from my 9-to-5 job, quickly turned into a full-blown obsession - I dove headfirst into cake classes and tutorials, experimenting with buttercream, fondant and using every sprinkle I could find. Not only did I rediscover my creativity and value as an artist, but I found a whole new way to express myself. It was the first time in a long where I felt creatively fulfilled.

Fast forward to today and I now have the privilege to share that joy with others by teaching cake lovers to bring their ideas to life and discover their own creative spark. It’s honestly a full circle moment! Whether you’re a beginner or a professional decorator, I’m here to help you master new techniques, build confidence and have fun along the way.
