I’m Amber Comadira-Smith, the cake-obsessed founder of Cake with Amber, previously known as Commie’s Cupcakes. 

As a proud winner of the Australian Party Stylist Of The Year Awards for Australian Cake Decorator Of The Year 2022 & 2023, my cake decorating and cupcake journey started way back in 2013 (it’s grown to an obsession, I won't lie!). As a graphic designer, I felt ‘flat’ and uninspired in my work - admittedly, it was taking a toll on my mental health and I started to question my value as a ‘creative’. 

So I started searching for a creative outlet and stumbled onto the tv show The Great Australian Bake Off, just as the first cupcake-themed episode aired. I was in awe of their amazing cake creations and I became instantly hooked with cake decorating overnight (just ask my mum and husband, I wouldn’t shut-up about it!)

I started with online cake decorating classes and local in-person cake classes, fine-tuning my cupcake decorating ideas. From cupcake flavours to cupcake icing decorations, I wanted to know it all!

Cake decorating made me feel excited again and emotionally fulfilled - it stirred this passion and creativity inside me that I hadn’t felt in so long.

What started out as a form of escapism from my 9-5, evolved into the incredible business I have today! I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to solely focus on teaching cake lovers and decorators to advance their skills and stir that same creative passion in other people! 

With my range of classes, not only do I focus on improving your technical cake skills, but I also give you an insight into my graphic design expertise to help elevate your cake work. Once you learn the little-known cake decorating secrets, you’ll never look back (and they’re super simple once you know them, I promise!).
