Perfect vanilla glaze
This classic vanilla glaze is a baking staple that everyone should have in their repertoire! This glaze is smooth, runny and glossy…it’s great to drizzle or pour over your bundt cakes, sponges, biscuits and muffins! (Just to name a few, I don’t want to get too carried away with explaining how versatile this little glaze is…).
Not only is it so easy to whip together (literally 5mins), but it adds that perfect sweet addition to your baked goods without the fuss that buttercream piping brings. It might be a simple recipe, but it sure does have star power!
See below for your short and sweet recipe, PLUS a quick visual step-by-step. I hope you enjoy!
LET’S GET COOKING
I’ve recently developed a small obsession with bundt cakes and I knew this would be the perfect cake to highlight my vanilla glaze.
A big thank-you to my collaborators Studio GIW for the bundt pan & styling, and Wezzy Cruze for capturing this gorgeous bundt and glaze recipe!
Let me take you through the three ingredients we’ll be using for our vanilla glaze. It’s a stupidly easy recipe and only takes 5mins to bring together! Not only will this be delicious on bundt cakes, but also a lovely finish for your go-to sponge cakes, biscuits and muffins (I’m salivating already!).
Icing sugar - The staple ingredient for this glaze! Make sure you sift the icing sugar to get rid of any lumps. However sometimes I tend not to worry about this step when I’m in a rush - just make sure to whisk it extra hard to get out those little lumps.
Buttermilk - Buttermilk is the secret ingredient that’ll add more depth of flavour to your icing, adding a touch of tang. It’s totally ok to use normal full cream milk, but it certainly doesn’t give you the same flavour experience!
Vanilla extract - Perfect for amping up the flavour profile, definitely don’t skimp out on this!
VANILLA GLAZE - RECIPE
Ingredients
225g soft icing sugar (sifted)
4 tbl buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pink food colouring (optional)
Method
Add your icing sugar, buttermilk and vanilla extract in a bowl, then give it a really good whisk to combine all the ingredients. Your glaze will be ready to use when the icing is smooth and glossy!
Optional extra: Add in some food colouring for a pop of colour!
Consistency: I personally like a thicker glaze, but feel free to add 1/2-1 tbl more buttermilk to thin out the consistency.
