Charming coastal date night

Who says romance is dead? Sometimes, you just need a little bit of creative engineering. I’m here to set the scene for you - think coastal allure, embracing nature, a bottle of champers and oysters. Oh wait…I mean, CAKE oysters (dun dun dun).

Let my date night cake bites & coastal styled shoot encourage you to take your cake creations to the next level and spark inspiration for your next intimate celebration.

The inspiration for my cake oysters all started with a date night with my husband…”

THE STYLING

To complement the theme of the cake oysters, I decided to style a charming outdoor scene, with a touch of coastal flair. I’m of the belief that a date night doesn’t have to be over the top, but that simple details can add that extra touch of magic. Subtle seaside accents adorned the setting, including a blue & white striped tablecloth and my favourite fish and sea themed plates and platters.

And of course, I couldn’t resist showcasing a bottle of Oyster Bay champagne - the perfect name pairing with my oyster-themed dessert!

THE CAKE

The inspiration for my cake oysters all started with a date night with my husband. Delicious seafood was on the menu (though no oysters in sight!) and it sparked an idea. I’d always wanted to design a cake for a special date night occasion, but I wasn’t interested in the typical love heart-inspired designs that people tend to lean towards. While I was eating my plate of scallops, that’s when inspiration struck - how about creating a plate of cake oysters?

These cake oysters were an exciting challenge in itself - I was on a mission to make jaws drop and voices yell ‘This is cake?!’.

Each oyster shell is made with white chocolate, while the sweet oyster meat is sculpted from cake and fondant. To add a realistic finish, I used edible paint for detailing and cleverly utilised gelatin to replicate the essence of oyster liquor.

These are honestly the perfect grab-and-go dessert or hors d'oeuvre for those special celebrations. Or perhaps even the ultimate dessert for a romantic date night setting, just like I’ve envisioned in the photos below.
