Dreamy garden soirée

I am so proud to reveal my first cake creation of the year. Honestly, I love this cake - I think it's beautiful and I hope you think so too.

Aesthetically I decided to strip back the showmanship and highlight the elegance of nature in all it’s organic forms and textures. Overall creating a ‘dreamy’ and ethereal aesthetic that is hard to tear your eyes away from.

THE STYLING

Inspired by one of my recent book reads ‘Natural Tables’ by Shellie Pomeroy, I was inspired to embrace a stripped back and understated tablescape, featuring organic shapes and neutral tones.

The hand written menus add a personalised and thoughtful touch, creating a special experience when seated at the table. To create the menus, I intentionally used old recycled paper from my mother’s craft cupboard, as they specifically had the texture/colouring to match my intended aesthetic. It’s also a great green-conscious alternative!

Lastly, the draped and gathered muslin adds soft movement and texture to the table scape.

Set outside in nature, you can’t help but feel warmth when looking at the table. I thinks it’s easy to underestimate what a simple table setting can achieve!

THE CAKE

This delicate cake has an understated allure. The light and airy nature of the edible wafer paper tulle and florals, delivers a whimsical and effortless elegance. Paired with a stripped back tablescape, you can't help but loose yourself in the detail of this cake.

In my cake design, I wanted to stay true to organic shapes and textures. Featuring hand-crafted Icelandic Poppies, each flower petal has been individually hand-cut, wired, textured and shaped. When crafting and arranging each flower, I hoped to convey the spirit of growth; from a smaller closed flower to an open larger flower.

To finish it off, I layered edible tulle to add volume and texture to the design.
