A vibrant Christmas tablescape

I have recently discovered my love for styled tablescapes and interiors, so I simply could not resist taking advantage of the upcoming holidays to embrace my two loves - styling and cake (duh!).

If you’re looking to refresh your Christmas table and dessert, my lavish and modern twist on your typical Christmas getup is bound to get you feeling inspired!

I wanted to retain that magical nostalgia and delight I experienced as a child…”

THE COLOUR

Each year in December, I fondly reflect back to the magical memories of Christmas from when I was a child. I remember watching in awe as Mum would decorate the house from head-to-toe in traditional Christmas colours, featuring deer figurines, angels and an array of garlands in her décor.

Meanwhile, my Dad and us kids would be in charge of the tree - decorating it with baubles to within an inch of it’s life and fighting over who put the angel on top of the tree.

Christmas songs would play on repeat (Wiggly Christmas and Bucko & Champs to be exact) and the anticipation of opening presents on Christmas morning would overexcite us!

For this year’s Christmas tablescape, I wanted to retain that magical nostalgia and delight I experienced as a child, but inject a modern twist that will bring life and luxury into my space (all the while hero-ing the cake!).

Instead of opting for the traditional colour scheme of red and green (which in my opinion are quite tired and overused), I decided to opt for a bright palette of assorted colours, paired with a rich royal blue to elevate the scene. The touches of gold bring the festive element and really help to tie the scene together.

THE CAKE

The white cake contrasts beautifully with the surrounding bright colours, enabling the cake to shine in elegance as the hero on the tablescape.

My yearning to experience a traditional snowy Christmas inspired the design of my two-tier mini cake.

The textured fondant recalls the wonders of crunched show on the ground, while the rice paper sail brings an element of movement; reminding me of cool, sharp winds during a heavy snow fall (or at least according to all those rom-com Christmas movies!).

The detail of the wafer paper flowers, pearls and sanding sugar simply enchances the winter concept and brings elegance to the cake design.
